Bill Cortner is an ambitious physician working in secret on limb transplantation with parts taken from the hospital morgue; his father, also a surgeon, disapproves. Nurse Jan is his assistant and bride-to-be. Bill uses his father's country home as a private lab, and one Friday he and Jan speed there in his convertible after an urgent call from his assistant Kurt — and crash. Bill keeps Jan's severed head alive and sets out to find her a new body, settling on glamor model Doris Powell, who has a facial disfigurement. Jan, who has no wish to continue existing this way, calls on the creature locked up from one of Bill's earlier failures.
